Pendleton, Oregon – Temperatures across eastern Oregon are set to soar dangerously high on Sunday, with highs near 105°F in the lower Columbia Basin and 100°F in Pendleton, triggering an urgent heat advisory from the National Weather Service. The advisory remains in effect from 12 p.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Monday, covering cities like Pendleton, Hermiston, The Dalles, Yakima, and Walla Walla.
According to the NWS Pendleton office, extreme heat could cause moderate to major heat-related illness, especially for seniors, children, and outdoor workers. Hydration, shaded rest, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours are essential. Residents near U.S. Route 395 and I-84 should limit travel between noon and 6 p.m. Sunday, when pavement heat and air quality will be at their worst.
High temperatures will peak Sunday afternoon, especially across the lower Columbia Basin, and remain dangerously elevated into Monday. Cities including Boardman, Prosser, and Sunnyside could hit triple digits, with overnight lows failing to dip below the mid-60s, offering little relief.
Heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and exhaustion are possible. OSHA recommends frequent breaks and shaded rest for outdoor workers. Call 911 immediately if symptoms occur. Children and pets should never be left in vehicles.
