Oregon’s Rogue Valley starts the morning cold and clear, but change is already lining up just beyond the horizon. The calm air breaks later today as clouds thicken and rain begins to spread across Medford, darkening pavement and lowering visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, rain develops mainly this afternoon and becomes more widespread tonight. Rain chances increase to near 100 percent on Sunday, with totals generally between a tenth and a quarter inch. Winds remain light, but wet roads will create slower travel, especially on I-5 and Highway 62.

Temperatures climb near 60 today before cooling Sunday, when highs settle into the mid-50s. By Sunday night, colder air pushes in. Snow levels drop from around 5,200 feet to near 4,200 feet after midnight. Valley floors stay rain, but surrounding passes and higher terrain could turn slick.

Drivers heading toward the Cascades or Siskiyou Summit should plan carefully late Sunday night into Monday morning. Wet roads combined with falling temperatures increase the risk for icy patches, especially on shaded stretches.

Monday brings a quieter break with partial sun and highs near the low 50s. That pause won’t last long. Cold nights follow, with lows dipping near freezing Monday night and again Tuesday night. Patchy frost becomes possible in outlying areas.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, skies turn mostly sunny with highs near the low 50s. To be fair, the calmer pattern feels like a reset after a wet stretch. Looking farther ahead, signs point toward a gradual warming trend later next week, with above-normal temperatures returning across southern Oregon.

For now, keep rain gear ready and watch nighttime temperatures closely. Wet roads today and colder nights ahead shape the early-week outlook. Seeing slick spots near your commute? Share what conditions look like where you are.
