Medford, OR – A Wind Advisory remains in effect for areas east of the Cascades through Thursday, with strong and potentially hazardous winds expected across Klamath Falls and higher terrain in Lake, Klamath, and Modoc counties.
According to the National Weather Service Medford office, travel may become difficult at times—especially for high-profile vehicles on exposed routes. Forecasters report that sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected across the advisory area, with gusts reaching 55 to 65 mph in the windiest locations. The strongest winds are forecast along the Shasta Valley, across mountain passes, and in other wind-prone regions. These conditions could lead to downed trees, power lines, and scattered power outages.
Drivers traveling along Highways 97, 140, and other east-side routes should use extra caution, particularly where winds funnel through valleys and ridge lines. The NWS also urges residents to secure loose outdoor objects such as patio furniture, trash bins, and holiday decorations that could be blown around or damaged.
Winds are expected to ease later Thursday as the system gradually moves out of the area, but intermittent gusts may persist into the evening.
