Pendleton, Oregon – Travel across eastern Oregon and parts of southeastern Washington could become difficult starting early Friday as snow and gusty winds spread across mountain highways and high-elevation communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Friday morning through early Saturday for the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon, the east slopes of the Oregon Cascades, and the upper slopes of the eastern Washington Cascades. Snow totals are expected to range from 3 to 9 inches, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph, leading to periods of reduced visibility.

In central Oregon, areas around Sisters, Camp Sherman, La Pine, and Sunriver could see snow-covered roads develop quickly Friday morning, especially along Highway 20 and Highway 126. In the Northern Blue Mountains, including Tollgate and Meacham, moderate to occasionally heavy snow may create slick and slow travel conditions through Friday night.

Across the border in Washington, higher elevations near Roslyn, Easton, and the eastern slopes of the Cascades crest are also expected to see accumulating snow. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches, adding to localized travel hazards.

Drivers are urged to slow down, carry winter emergency supplies, and allow extra travel time. Road conditions may deteriorate rapidly during heavier snow bands, particularly overnight Friday. Travelers should monitor TripCheck in Oregon and WSDOT updates in Washington, as advisories could be extended if snowfall persists into Saturday morning.
