Pendleton, Oregon – Temperatures will climb fast in eastern Oregon as Pendleton heads into a hot, dry stretch starting Thursday, with fire conditions remaining a top concern.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, according to the National Weather Service. Though the alert will expire overnight, conditions on Thursday will remain ripe for wildfire ignition as winds from the west hit 10 mph and humidity drops under sunny skies.
Pendleton will reach a high near 85°F Thursday, kicking off a three-day warming trend. Friday’s high hits 92°F, and by Saturday, the mercury peaks near 97°F. Each day will remain dry and breezy, with clear skies at night and lows hovering in the upper 50s to low 60s. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to avoid using equipment that can spark near dry grass.
Drivers on U.S. Route 395 and I-84 should remain alert for changing conditions, especially in areas with tall grass or ongoing agricultural activity.
While no new warnings have been issued yet, elevated fire danger will persist through the weekend due to dry fuels and hot daytime highs. This pattern closely mirrors July 2022, when similar conditions triggered several small brush fires across Umatilla County.
