PORTLAND, Ore. – A surge of Pacific moisture is heading for northwest Oregon this weekend, bringing Portland its wettest weather pattern in weeks. The National Weather Service says steady rain will begin late Saturday and intensify through Sunday, with a few afternoon thunderstorms possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the system will sweep across the I-5 corridor, affecting Portland, Beaverton, and Vancouver. Rain chances climb to 90 percent Sunday, with most areas seeing up to a quarter inch of rainfall. Winds could gust up to 25 mph along exposed areas, especially near bridges and overpasses. Drivers should expect reduced visibility and slick roads on I-5, U.S. 26, and Highway 30 through the Columbia River corridor.

Saturday remains the best day for outdoor plans, including pumpkin patch trips and fall leaf viewing, with sunshine and highs in the low 60s. Rain develops late Saturday night, lingering into Sunday evening before tapering off early Monday. Cooler, calmer weather returns to start the week, with mostly sunny skies by Monday afternoon.

This weekend’s rain marks a typical mid-October transition as Oregon’s fall storm season strengthens — a reminder to clear gutters, check windshield wipers, and prepare for wet commutes next week.
