Oregon – Headlights reflect off damp pavement as cold air settles into southern Oregon early this morning. Light snow clings to hillsides above town, while valley roads stay wet but cold enough to turn slick quickly.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midmorning for areas above 1,500 feet in Jackson County. Additional snow totals up to three inches are possible, with the highest amounts near the Cascade foothills. Locations including Ashland, Butte Falls, and Prospect are most affected.
Snow and rain mix early, then gradually shift to rain as snow levels rise toward late morning. State Highway 238 and higher elevations along Highway 62 may see slushy conditions during the commute. Drivers should expect reduced traction and brief delays, especially on untreated roads.
In Medford itself, temperatures hover in the upper 30s early, keeping surfaces cold. Even light precipitation can create slick spots on bridges, ramps, and shaded streets. Slow down and allow extra space if traveling through foothill routes.
Conditions improve this afternoon as clouds thin and precipitation fades. Highs climb into the low 40s, helping melt lingering snow at lower elevations. Tonight turns colder again, with lows dipping into the mid-20s. Patchy frost develops, raising concerns for black ice early Friday.
Friday brings calmer winter weather. Sunshine returns, and highs reach the mid-40s. Cold mornings remain a theme into the weekend, but afternoons trend milder. Saturday and Sunday stay partly sunny with highs near 47 to 50, offering a quieter stretch after today’s advisory.
More systems are being monitored early next week, though no new advisories are posted yet. Winter remains in control across southern Oregon. Are you seeing snow or slick roads near your area this morning?
