Medford, Ore. – Drivers across southern Oregon should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility as heavy rain and thunderstorms move in Monday. Conditions will change quickly along I-5, raising the risk for delays between Ashland and Grants Pass.

According to the National Weather Service, showers are likely beginning late Monday morning and lasting through the evening. Thunderstorms may develop after 5 p.m., bringing localized downpours and gusty winds. Rainfall totals could reach a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible under thunderstorms.

Today stays calm with sunshine and highs near 89. Smoke lingers in the valleys this evening, but winds remain light. Sunday brings increasing clouds with highs near 83 before the system arrives.

Commuters should allow extra time on I-5, especially through the Siskiyou Summit, where wet pavement can reduce braking distance. Residents are urged to check storm drains for blockages and secure outdoor items before the storms hit. Power interruptions are possible during stronger cells.

The wet pattern eases by midweek, but scattered showers continue through Wednesday. A shift to cooler, fall-like weather follows as October begins Thursday, bringing highs in the mid-70s with clearing skies.

More advisories may be issued if thunderstorm coverage expands. Stay weather-aware and plan ahead for changing conditions.
