Portland, OR – A quick-moving front will deliver light rain across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington tonight into early Sunday morning, with snow levels dropping enough to bring light snow through the Cascade passes. The National Weather Service in Portland says precipitation will begin late Saturday night and continue into early Sunday before turning more showery later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service, the front will spread light rain from the coast inland through the Willamette Valley, including Portland, Salem, and Eugene. Model reflectivity suggests the heaviest bands will pass through during the overnight hours before breaking apart on Sunday afternoon.
Snow levels will fall behind the front, allowing for light accumulations across Cascade travel routes, including Government Camp and Santiam Pass. Drivers crossing the mountains late tonight or early Sunday may encounter slick or slushy conditions, especially in heavier bursts of snow.
By Sunday afternoon, rain and mountain snow are expected to become more scattered, with intermittent showers continuing into the evening. Temperatures across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington will remain seasonable, though breezy conditions may accompany the frontal passage.
This system marks the beginning of a more active pattern for the Pacific Northwest heading into Thanksgiving week, with additional rounds of rain and mountain snow expected in the days ahead.
