EUGENE – A thick fog clings to the valley floor this morning, blurring headlights along I-5 and settling heavy on the fields. The air feels still — deceptively calm before a strong Pacific system sweeps into western Oregon to start the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, light clouds will give way to increasing rain chances late Sunday night, followed by steady rainfall through Monday and Tuesday. The first band of rain is expected to move inland early Monday, with heavier showers developing by midday. A stronger push of moisture arrives Monday night, bringing gusty south winds and the potential for a few thunderstorms near the coast and southern Willamette Valley.

Rainfall totals could reach one to two inches across the valley through midweek, with locally higher amounts in the Coast Range and Cascade foothills. Tuesday’s system will likely deliver the most intense rainfall and breeziest conditions, with gusts around 25 mph in open areas and near 20 mph through the Eugene–Springfield corridor. Drivers should anticipate wet pavement, ponding, and reduced visibility during both commutes.

By Wednesday, scattered showers continue, tapering gradually into Thursday as the next front lines up offshore. Temperatures stay mild, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s — classic early November weather for Oregon.

Looking ahead, models hint at a cooler, drier pattern emerging next weekend. If trends hold, nighttime lows could drop toward the upper 30s, signaling the first hint of a late-fall cold snap before mid-November.
