Pendleton, OR – A potent mix of rain and snowmelt will bring rising river levels and potential flooding across Oregon through Monday. Residents should prepare for wet conditions and monitor local water levels closely.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, an atmospheric river will deliver moderate to heavy rainfall this weekend, with totals reaching 2 to 5 inches in some areas, particularly the Cascades and Blue Mountains. Coupled with warming temperatures, snowmelt will further swell streams and rivers, increasing the risk of localized flooding.
The Walla Walla River at Touchet and the Naches River at Cliffdell are expected to reach bankfull by late Sunday, with a slight chance of exceeding minor flood stage. Meanwhile, smaller streams and burn scar areas could see rapid runoff, leading to potential flash flooding.
Rain will continue through Monday, with the heaviest downpours expected Saturday night and Sunday. By Tuesday, conditions should dry out, followed by sunshine midweek.
Travelers should remain cautious on wet roads, particularly in higher elevations. Officials urge residents in flood-prone areas to stay informed and prepare for rising water levels.
