Pendleton, Oregon – A rare late-June cold front is set to bring rain, gusty winds, and below-average temperatures to much of eastern Oregon starting Friday, with impacts lingering into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, winds will begin to increase Friday morning, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph in some areas by Friday night. Rain showers are expected to follow, with the heaviest rainfall likely Saturday. The rainfall forecast shows totals ranging from 0.10 to 0.50 inches across the region, especially along the eastern slopes of the Cascades.

Pendleton, Hermiston, and La Grande could see slick roads and reduced visibility during peak wind periods, especially Friday evening. Light rain will extend into Saturday, keeping temperatures unusually cool for this time of year — highs are forecast to stay below 70°F. Outdoor events may be disrupted, and drivers should remain cautious in open areas prone to crosswinds.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and monitor local alerts. Power outages are not expected but could occur in isolated spots with tree branches downed by wind.

The system should move out by Sunday, with temperatures rebounding closer to seasonal norms.
