Medford, OR – A significant pattern change is on the way for southern Oregon and northern California as a trough and upper low-pressure system move into the region this week, according to the National Weather Service in Medford. Cooler temperatures are forecast to settle in Wednesday and Thursday, bringing gusty winds across the Cascades and into the Shasta Valley.
By Friday, Oct. 10, widespread rain showers are expected, with the most active weather likely west of the Cascades. Curry and western Siskiyou counties may see the heaviest rainfall, while gusty winds continue for higher terrain and exposed valleys.
The weekend forecast (Oct. 11–12) calls for lingering showers near the coast and over the Cascades, with cooler-than-average daytime highs and breezy conditions expected to persist. Forecasters noted that active weather could extend into next week as the trough pattern remains in place.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for slick roads, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures, particularly on mountain passes and coastal routes.
