Medford, Oregon – A round of isolated thunderstorms could develop across southern Oregon between 3 and 9 p.m. Sunday, bringing gusty winds and lightning during peak Memorial Day weekend travel and events.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, there’s a 10–25% chance of storms forming across the region on May 25, with a 5–10% chance any one storm becomes severe. Damaging wind gusts between 45–55 mph and frequent lightning are the main threats. Rainfall will be light, and hail is not expected to exceed one inch in diameter.

Cities including Medford, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass, and Ashland may see passing storms, especially in the late afternoon and early evening. The storm outlook remains in the “marginal risk” category, meaning most areas will stay dry, but anyone with outdoor plans should stay alert.

Residents are urged to keep mobile alerts active and have alternate shelter plans in case thunder is heard nearby. Lightning safety remains a top concern with many people expected to be outdoors for the holiday weekend.

Storm activity is expected to diminish after 9 p.m., but additional updates may follow if conditions change.
