Chemult, Ore. – Farmers and gardeners in northern Klamath and Lake counties should prepare for a sharp chill as a frost advisory takes effect overnight into Monday morning. Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-30s, creating conditions for frost formation across Chemult, Crescent, Christmas Valley and surrounding communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the advisory is in place from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday. Frost may last several hours before the sun warms the region, putting outdoor plants and crops at risk. Sensitive vegetation left uncovered could be damaged or killed.
Residents in Crescent and Gilchrist are encouraged to cover gardens, bring potted plants inside and prepare irrigation systems that could freeze. Ranchers near Fort Rock and Christmas Valley may also need to take precautions to shield livestock water sources.
The chill is a reminder that fall is quickly setting in across southern Oregon, with overnight lows trending colder in higher elevations. More frost advisories could be issued in the coming weeks as temperatures continue to dip.
