PENDLETON, OR — A sharp chill grips eastern Oregon this morning as freezing fog and light rain build across the Pendleton area, creating slick travel conditions and limited visibility along I-84 and Highway 11. Windshields are icing fast, and faint halos form around headlights in the dense, icy air — a sign of moisture freezing close to the surface.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, rain will develop later today, becoming more widespread by Tuesday morning. Temperatures hover just above freezing, raising the risk of patchy ice and fog before the system warms the region slightly by midweek.

A 60–70% chance of rain continues through Tuesday, with highs in the low 40s and lows near 26°F by early Wednesday. Snow levels are expected to stay above 1,800 feet, so most valley communities will see rain or freezing drizzle rather than snow — though elevated passes in the Blue Mountains could pick up a light coating.

Conditions improve briefly Wednesday with partly sunny skies, but another system brings renewed rain chances Thursday into Friday as Pacific moisture streams inland.

5-Day Outlook (Pendleton, OR):

  • Monday: Freezing fog early, rain late, high 39°F.

  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, high 43°F.
  • Thursday: Mostly cloudy, chance rain, high 45°F.
