Oregon – A Freeze Watch has been issued across the Northern Blue Mountains, including Pendleton, with sub-freezing temperatures expected tonight into Friday morning. Residents in the affected areas are urged to take precautions to protect sensitive plants, plumbing, and crops from the cold. Temperatures could fall as low as 28°F overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, cloud cover has prevented freezing conditions this morning, prompting the cancellation of the freeze warning. However, a Freeze Watch remains in effect tonight through Friday morning, covering the foothills of the Blue Mountains and extending to the Columbia Basin. This cold front could endanger local crops and unprotected outdoor plumbing if proper steps aren’t taken.
The affected regions span parts of I-84 and Umatilla County, where agricultural communities should take urgent measures to protect their crops. The forecast for Pendleton includes lows of 26°F tonight, warming slightly to 32°F by Friday night. Though the immediate freeze warning was canceled due to warmer-than-expected temperatures, residents are advised not to let their guard down. The combination of freezing temperatures and wind can exacerbate the risk to vegetation and exposed water lines.
Looking ahead, Pendleton’s extended forecast shows a warmer trend, with highs reaching the mid-60s by Saturday, followed by a chance of rain Sunday night into Monday. Despite the milder daytime temperatures, overnight lows will still hover near freezing. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions closely and prepare for potential rain next week.
