PORTLAND, Ore. – A wet and stormy stretch is drenching much of northwest Oregon this Friday, with heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms expected to continue into the weekend. Drivers across the Portland metro, especially along I-84 and I-205, should plan for slow travel and ponding water through late Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, rainfall could top an inch in spots today as waves of moisture move inland from the Pacific. A few thunderstorms may bring brief downpours and gusts near 25 mph. By Sunday morning, lingering showers will taper as cooler, drier air filters in.

Commuters are urged to allow extra time, avoid flooded lanes, and check TripCheck and ODOT updates for changing road conditions. The damp pattern will finally relax on Columbus Day, giving way to brighter skies and near-normal fall temperatures.

Saturday remains the wettest day, with widespread showers and breezy conditions through evening. Sunday brings lighter rain before the region turns mostly sunny Monday. This marks a brief autumn reset before the next Pacific front arrives midweek.

Outdoor plans — from pumpkin patch visits to leaf-viewing hikes — will be soggy early, but improving weather by Monday should reward patience. Keep jackets handy and prepare for slick streets during Friday’s evening commute.
