EUGENE, Ore. – A sharp fall chill grips the Willamette Valley early Wednesday as a Frost Advisory takes hold. Temperatures dropped into the mid-30s across parts of Lane, Linn, and Benton Counties, prompting alerts for sensitive vegetation. Farmers and gardeners are urged to cover plants and bring potted greenery indoors before dawn.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, temperatures between 32°F and 36°F are expected across low-lying areas through mid-morning, particularly near Eugene, Corvallis, and Albany. Conditions will improve quickly after sunrise, with clear skies and calm winds allowing sunshine to return by late morning. The frost threat diminishes later today as afternoon highs climb into the mid-60s.

Drivers along I-5 and rural county routes should be cautious of early frost on bridges and shaded stretches, which can become slick. By Thursday and Friday, high pressure will build across western Oregon, producing several mild, sunny days — ideal for outdoor projects, fall festivals, and late harvest work.

Forecasters expect temperatures to reach the upper 60s to near 70°F by Saturday, making this weekend one of the most comfortable in October so far. Cooler air may return late Sunday with a few light showers possible, but no major storms are expected.

After this morning’s frost, western Oregon is set for a classic stretch of fall weather — crisp mornings, warm afternoons, and bright skies perfect for pumpkin patches and park outings.
