Portland, OR – The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Low Water Alert for the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, warning that levels may drop near or below one foot during low tide each day through Monday, October 20, 2025.
According to the weather service, the alert applies to the Portland/Vancouver metro area, where shallow water could expose submerged objects such as logs, rocks, and debris, creating hazards for recreational and commercial river traffic.
Officials advise boaters and anyone working along the riverbanks to use extra caution during low tide periods. Even minor depth reductions can increase the risk of grounding or damage to watercraft. The public is encouraged to check updated river forecasts and tide schedules through the National Weather Service’s river monitoring portal at water.noaa.gov.
The advisory remains in effect until at least October 20 but may extend further if dry weather persists and river flows remain low.
