Medford, OR – Freezing temperatures and stagnant air conditions will continue affecting Southern Oregon through midweek, creating potential health risks for residents. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Cold Weather Advisory and an Air Stagnation Advisory, urging people to limit outdoor exposure.
According to the NWS, lows will drop to 19°F in valleys across Josephine and Jackson counties, with frostbite and hypothermia risks increasing for those outside too long. Poor air quality from trapped pollutants may also affect those with respiratory conditions. The advisories remain in effect until noon Thursday.
Wednesday will bring sunny skies with a high of 50°F, though freezing fog may linger in the morning. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 25°F. Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high of 52°F, but rain chances increase Thursday night into Friday, when rain is likely with highs near 47°F.
Residents should insulate pipes, bring pets indoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors. If traveling, wear layered clothing to prevent frostbite. Respiratory-sensitive individuals should avoid outdoor exercise due to poor air quality.
