Pendleton, OR – A major winter storm is set to bring up to 3 feet of snow and dangerous travel conditions to the East Slopes of the Oregon Cascades starting Friday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 8 a.m. Friday until 11 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, areas above 4,000 feet along the Cascade crest could see between 1 to 3 feet of snow, while lower elevations may receive up to 4 inches. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph, reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions.

Residents in Sunriver, La Pine, Sisters, and Camp Sherman should prepare for extreme winter weather. Travel is strongly discouraged, as heavy snowfall and gusty winds may lead to downed trees and power lines. Authorities recommend carrying a winter storm kit, including blankets, flashlights, tire chains, and extra food and water, in case of emergencies.

Officials urge motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and to report any power outages to their utility providers. Anyone who must drive should exercise extreme caution and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
