Medford, OR – Travelers heading into Oregon’s higher elevations this weekend should prepare for the season’s first round of mountain snow, according to the National Weather Service in Medford. A pair of upper-level lows will bring a cold, moist air mass to the region from Friday night through Monday, with periods of showers and light snow possible.
According to the NWS, snow levels are expected to lower to between 5,000 and 6,500 feet by Friday night. Accumulations could range from less than 1 inch up to 6 inches, with locally higher totals depending on the track of the storm system. Areas such as Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, and the higher peaks of the Cascades, Siskiyous, and Siskiyou County are most likely to see snowfall.
Forecasters note that warmer ground temperatures may cause snow to melt quickly, though roads could still become slick and hazardous—especially overnight and early morning. Drivers are urged to check conditions before traveling through mountain passes and to allow extra time for potential delays.
