Meacham, Oregon – Travel across the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon and southeast Washington could remain slow and hazardous through Saturday evening as mountain snowfall continues above 4,000 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday for the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon and the Northwest Blue Mountains of Washington.

Forecasters expect 6 to 9 inches of additional snow across higher elevations, including areas near Meacham, Tollgate, and Ski Bluewood Resort. Winds may gust up to 40 mph, which could blow snow across roadways and bring down small tree branches.

Mountain travel routes, including Interstate 84 near Meacham and Highways crossing the Blue Mountains, may see snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility during heavier snowfall periods.

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, especially in higher terrain where snowfall rates may briefly increase.

Officials recommend checking TripCheck in Oregon or Washington’s WSDOT travel sites for the latest road conditions before heading into the mountains.

Snow showers may gradually ease later Saturday night, though icy conditions could linger on higher elevation roads into early Sunday.
