Government Camp, Oregon – Snow will begin falling across the Oregon Cascades and Coast Range before daybreak Monday, creating slick mountain roads through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 4 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Thursday for the Cascades, Coast Range, Cascade foothills and the South Washington Cascades. In the higher Cascades, 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected Monday into Monday night, followed by 2 to 5 inches Tuesday and another 4 to 9 inches Wednesday. Foothill and Coast Range communities could see 2 to 5 inches Monday, lighter snow Tuesday, then an additional 2 to 5 inches Wednesday.
Key travel routes including Santiam Pass, Government Camp on U.S. 26, Willamette Pass, McKenzie Pass and Larch Mountain are likely to see snow-covered pavement. In the Coast Range, areas near Marys Peak, Sunset Summit and the Wilson River Summit may become slick, especially on bridges and shaded curves.
Travelers should carry chains, allow extra time and check TripCheck.com or WSDOT’s real-time map before departure. Snow intensity may briefly ease Tuesday before another round arrives Wednesday. The advisory remains in effect through early Thursday.
