Medford, Oregon – Snow will reach valley floors overnight Monday, setting up slick roads across southern Oregon and northern California in time for the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a sharp cold front will push snow levels down from around 3,000 feet Monday afternoon to 1,000 to 1,500 feet late Monday night. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect from 10 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Thursday, depending on elevation. Valley areas including Medford, Grants Pass and Roseburg could see 2 to 6 inches of wet snow, while elevations above 1,500 to 2,000 feet may receive 6 to 12 inches. The Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains could pick up 10 to 15 inches, with up to 2 feet above 5,000 feet.
Siskiyou Pass on Interstate 5, Sexton Pass, Hayes Hill on Highway 199 and Roberts Mountain Pass are all likely to see hazardous travel. In northern California, Yreka and Weed may receive 2 to 5 inches, with higher totals above 3,000 feet.
Periods of heavier snow are most likely late Monday night into early Tuesday, with additional waves through Thursday.
