Medford, Oregon – Temperatures along the southern Oregon coast will plunge to around 28 degrees after midnight Tuesday night, cold enough to damage crops and freeze exposed pipes before sunrise Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Freeze Warning is in effect from midnight Tuesday night until 9 a.m. PST Wednesday for coastal Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties. Communities impacted include Reedsport, Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon, Port Orford, Gold Beach, and Brookings.
The coldest readings are expected in inland coastal valleys and wind-sheltered areas, where frost will develop quickly. Sensitive vegetation, early-season gardens, and unprotected outdoor plumbing face the highest risk during the pre-dawn hours.
Residents should cover or bring in tender plants, insulate exposed pipes, and disconnect garden hoses before temperatures drop. Commercial growers should activate frost protection measures where available.
Morning temperatures will rebound after 9 a.m., and surrounding nights are expected to remain in the mid-30s. Additional advisories could be issued if colder air lingers along the coast.
