Pendleton, Oregon – Scorching temperatures will bake much of northeast Oregon on Wednesday, July 30, with Pendleton expected to hit a blistering 100°F by mid-afternoon — the peak of this week’s summer heat wave.

According to the National Weather Service, calm winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to climb quickly through the morning, topping out near 100°F by 3 to 4 p.m. Areas along U.S. Highway 395 could see road surface temperatures far exceed air temps, creating dangerous conditions for drivers, pets, and anyone working outdoors. Residents are urged to avoid peak-hour travel, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor exposure.

Cooler weather is on the horizon by Friday, but not before Thursday brings another hot, dry afternoon in the mid-90s. A slight chance of thunderstorms arrives late Thursday night, with more widely scattered showers possible Friday and Friday night, particularly in southern Umatilla and Morrow Counties.

The weekend offers a reprieve from extreme heat, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Nighttime lows will drop into the mid-50s, making for more comfortable evenings ahead.

More temperature swings are expected Monday, with highs in the low 80s. Stay alert for any changes as conditions shift heading into early August.
