Oregon Weather Alert: 10 Inches of Snow in Cascades by Wednesday Night, Advisory Through Friday 4 AM

Portland, Oregon – Travel across the Oregon and south Washington Cascades will remain snow-covered and hazardous for the next several days as multiple waves of snowfall stack up through early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. Friday for the North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Marion and Linn counties, Cascades of Lane County and the South Washington Cascades, along with the Coast Range and Cascade foothills.

Cascade locations including Government Camp, Santiam Pass, Willamette Pass and Mt. St. Helens could see an additional 2 to 5 inches of snow through Tuesday night, followed by 5 to 10 inches Wednesday and another 5 to 10 inches Thursday. Foothill communities such as Welches, Detroit, McKenzie Bridge and Silver Falls are expected to pick up 2 to 6 inches initially, with additional rounds of 2 to 5 inches Wednesday and Thursday.

Snow-covered pavement and icy bridges will impact travel on Highways 26, 22 and 58, as well as Interstate 84 near higher elevations. Chain restrictions are likely at times.

Drivers should carry winter emergency kits and check TripCheck.com or WSDOT travel maps before departure. Advisories remain in effect through early Friday as repeated snow bands continue to move across the region.
