Government Camp, Oregon – Snow will begin piling up across the North Oregon Cascades before sunrise Monday, creating slick mountain highways and hazardous travel through Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 5 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Tuesday for the North Oregon Cascades, including Government Camp, Lost Lake, Bennett Pass, and Timothy Lake. Snowfall totals between 4 and 10 inches are expected across the higher elevations, while wind gusts may reach 40 mph in exposed mountain areas.

Roads across the Mount Hood region, especially elevated bridges and mountain passes, are expected to become slick as steady snowfall develops Monday morning. Travel through routes such as U.S. Highway 26 near Government Camp and other Cascade mountain corridors could become slow and hazardous as accumulation builds.

Strong winds combined with snowfall may also reduce visibility at times along higher ridgelines and open stretches of highway. Drivers traveling into recreation areas near Mount Hood or Timothy Lake should prepare for winter driving conditions and allow extra time for mountain travel.

Oregon transportation officials urge drivers to check road conditions before traveling by visiting TripCheck.com or calling the state’s 511 system. Motorists should carry chains, blankets, water, and emergency supplies if heading into the Cascades.

The advisory remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon, and additional updates could be issued if snowfall intensifies across the region.
