Portland, Oregon – Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect across the Oregon Cascades and South Washington Cascades, with additional heavy snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, 4 to 9 inches of additional snow is expected across the North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Lane, Linn, and Marion counties, and the South Washington Cascades. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility. This warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. PST Thursday.
Snow is impacting numerous high-elevation routes and recreation areas, including Santiam Pass, Government Camp, McKenzie Pass, Willamette Pass, Bennett Pass, Tombstone Summit, and areas near Mt. St. Helens. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to be slick and snow-covered.
Farther south, the National Weather Service in Medford reports Winter Storm Warnings continue through 10 a.m. PST Thursday for the Douglas County Cascade Foothills, South Central Oregon Cascades, and the Siskiyou Mountains. Snow accumulations range from 1 to 5 inches, with the greatest impacts above 2,000 feet.
Impacted routes include Siskiyou Pass on I-5, Highway 58 at Willamette Pass, Highways 138 and 230 near Diamond Lake, Lake of the Woods, and access roads to Mt. Ashland and Crater Lake.
Travel is strongly discouraged in mountain areas. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should carry emergency supplies, reduce speed, and allow extra stopping distance. Backcountry recreation is not advised due to rapidly changing conditions.
