Pendleton, OR – The National Weather Service in Pendleton has extended a Wind Advisory across much of Central Oregon and southeastern Washington through 11 p.m. Friday night, warning of gusts up to 45 mph as a cold front moves through the region.

According to the advisory, southwest winds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts near 45 mph, will continue through the evening for areas including Bend, Redmond, Prineville, Yakima, Tri-Cities, and Walla Walla.

Forecasters say the strongest gusts are expected this afternoon and evening as the cold front passes, bringing a brief but intense period of high winds followed by cooler air overnight.

The NWS warns that tree limbs may be blown down and isolated power outages are possible. Drivers, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution on open highways including U.S. 97 and I-82.

The winds are expected to diminish late tonight as the front moves east.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and decorations and remain alert for changing weather conditions.
