Pendleton, OR – Mountain roads in Oregon and Washington are expected to remain hazardous through early Saturday as a winter storm brings snow, gusty winds, and slick conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, snow will impact the east slopes of the Washington Cascades above 2,500 feet through 5 a.m. Saturday, while the Oregon Cascades and Northern Blue Mountains will see snowfall above 4,000 feet until 11 p.m. Friday. Winds gusting up to 45 mph will further reduce visibility, creating dangerous travel conditions.
Drivers are urged to check road conditions before traveling and follow traction requirements. The NWS advises motorists to leave extra space between vehicles and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Major routes, including Snoqualmie and Santiam Passes, could see significant snow accumulation, increasing the risk of spinouts and delays.
While the overall weather risk is classified as minor, officials stress that even light snow and strong winds can make roads treacherous. Those planning to cross mountain passes should carry chains and emergency supplies. For up-to-date travel information, visit WSDOT and TripCheck.
