Pendleton, OR – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and hazardous conditions to the Cascades in Washington and Oregon through Sunday night. Travel is expected to be extremely dangerous, with up to three feet of snow and wind gusts reaching 45 mph in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Upper Slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades Crest, including Easton and Roslyn, from 5 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. Snow accumulations between 10 and 18 inches are expected above 2,000 feet, with winds gusting up to 40 mph.

In Oregon, the East Slopes of the Cascades, including Sunriver, Camp Sherman, Sisters, and La Pine, will see continued snowfall until 11 p.m. Sunday. Areas above 4,000 feet could receive between one and three feet of snow, while lower elevations may see up to six inches. Winds could reach 45 mph, further reducing visibility with widespread blowing snow.

Officials urge residents to delay travel if possible. If travel is necessary, motorists should carry a winter storm kit, including tire chains, blankets, food, and water. Power outages are also possible due to falling tree branches and strong winds.

The storm poses a significant risk to mountain travelers, with slick roads and whiteout conditions likely. Authorities advise reporting downed power lines and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activity in affected areas.
