Central Point, OR – Two adults were seriously injured Friday morning after a passenger truck ran a stop sign and struck a Jackson County School District 6 bus in rural Central Point, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred around 7:11 a.m. at the intersection of Newland Road and Truax Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies, Oregon State Police troopers, and Jackson County Fire District 3 personnel arrived to find significant front-end damage to the bus. Investigators say the Toyota Tundra was traveling north on Truax Road when it failed to stop and collided with the westbound bus.
The bus driver and an adult passenger aboard the school bus were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and remain in stable condition. One child was also on the bus at the time of the crash and suffered minor injuries. There were no reported injuries to those inside the pickup.
The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team responded to conduct a detailed investigation. Officials say the team is working to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash, including speed, visibility, and roadway conditions. Jackson County Roads temporarily closed the intersection while investigators documented the scene.
Authorities say the STAR Team includes investigators from the sheriff’s office, Medford Police Department, Ashland Police Department, Central Point Police Department, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains open, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Residents in the area experienced delays Friday morning due to the closure and emergency response. No citations or arrests had been announced as of Friday afternoon.
