Medford, Oregon – Scattered thunderstorms will sweep through southern Oregon into Wednesday night, bringing lightning, hail, and gusty winds that could linger into early Thursday for parts of Klamath and Lake counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the greatest thunderstorm risk is expected in Siskiyou, Modoc, Klamath, and Lake counties. Lower chances extend into Jackson, Josephine, and eastern Douglas counties. Storm activity will shift northward overnight but may stall over parts of southwest Oregon, raising concerns about fire starts from lightning and travel disruptions due to strong outflow winds.

Communities from Ashland to Alturas should prepare for rapid weather changes this evening. Hikers and outdoor workers are urged to seek shelter well before thunder begins. Gusts could reach over 30 mph, and small hail may impact local roads and unprotected vehicles.

With much of the region under a “limited to elevated” lightning risk zone, residents are advised to avoid lakes, peaks, and open fields. Stay indoors and wait at least 30 minutes after the last rumble before resuming outdoor activities.

Storm conditions could persist into Thursday morning, especially in northern Lake and Klamath counties. Additional alerts are possible.
