Pendleton, Oregon – Triple-digit heat is heading toward northeast Oregon, with Pendleton residents bracing for scorching summer highs near 99°F by early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will remain mostly sunny with a high of 81°F, but temperatures are expected to rise sharply into the weekend. A hot, dry pattern will lock in starting Friday, with highs hitting 86°F Saturday and peaking at 93°F Sunday. Winds along U.S. Route 395 could reach 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph — increasing the risk of fire spread in exposed grassland.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat and keep hydration a priority. Those driving long distances should ensure vehicles are topped off with coolant and emergency kits are on hand. Clear skies will continue overnight with lows dipping into the 50s, offering little relief from the daytime warmth.

Weekend travelers should stay alert for changing wind conditions, especially on exposed routes near the Blue Mountains. Winds from the southwest will push hot, dry air into the region daily through Tuesday, keeping fire weather concerns elevated.

This spike in temperatures marks one of the warmest stretches so far this June. Tuesday’s expected high of 99°F would be Pendleton’s hottest day of the year so far.
