Medford, OR – Residents of southern Oregon should prepare for significant travel disruptions as a winter storm intensifies starting Monday morning. The National Weather Service predicts heavy snow in the Cascades, with accumulations reaching up to 18 inches in some areas. Snow levels will drop to 3,000 feet by Monday evening, impacting Highway 97 and surrounding roadways.

According to the US National Weather Service Medford, the storm will bring heavy precipitation, beginning as rain and transitioning to snow in higher elevations. Travelers should expect slowdowns along Highway 97 and in the high Cascades due to slick roads and reduced visibility. Those traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday should plan ahead and check road conditions.

By Monday evening, snow accumulation is forecasted to range from 2 to 4 inches in lower elevations and up to 18 inches at higher peaks. Wind gusts could exacerbate conditions, creating potential for whiteouts in the area. Chains or snow tires will likely be required for mountain travel.

In addition to snow, an atmospheric river will bring moderate to heavy rain to Curry County, increasing flood risks along the Coquille River. Drivers in low-lying areas should remain alert for potential road closures or rockslides.

Looking ahead, rain and snow are likely to continue Tuesday before tapering off midweek. Highs will remain in the mid-40s, with lows dipping into the 30s at night. Stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local authorities.
