Medford, OR – Residents in southern Oregon should prepare for frosty conditions early Monday morning as a cold front pushes through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, cold air will linger over northern Klamath and Lake Counties from late Sunday night into early Monday, Sept. 22. The chill could bring frost-producing temperatures to the cities of Chemult, Crescent, Klamath Falls, and even as far south as Alturas, California.

The forecast calls for overnight lows dipping near or below freezing in some high-elevation valleys, raising concerns for gardeners and commuters. NWS officials said the frost may cause patchy ice on rural roads and warned residents to cover sensitive plants.

“Overnight lows will gradually warm up as the week progresses,” forecasters added, noting that the frost threat is expected to be short-lived.

Travelers on U.S. 97 through Chemult and Crescent should be cautious of slick spots early Monday. Residents in Klamath Falls and Lakeview are also advised to prepare for potentially chilly starts to the day.

The cooler conditions follow a weekend cold front, but temperatures are forecast to rebound by midweek.
