Boise, Idaho – A surge of monsoon moisture will bring increasing showers and thunderstorms across southwest Idaho and southeast Oregon this weekend and into midweek, raising concerns for flooding near recent burn scars.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, storm activity will begin on the drier side this weekend, producing brief rain, gusty outflow winds, and blowing dust. By early next week, a moistening atmosphere will fuel stronger storms capable of moderate to heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and localized flooding.

Communities stretching from the Treasure Valley to Mountain Home and Twin Falls should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility on roadways. Burn scar areas, including portions of the Owyhee Mountains and central Idaho, face heightened risk of flash flooding as heavier rain develops.

Travelers are urged to use caution during afternoon and evening hours when storms are most likely to flare up. Emergency officials recommend avoiding flooded roads, keeping devices charged, and monitoring local alerts for rapid changes in conditions.

Storm chances are expected to continue through midweek, with additional advisories possible if rainfall rates intensify.
