Portland, Ore. – Oregon remains locked under a dangerous stretch of heat as excessive heat warnings and watches blanket much of the state through early next week. Afternoon highs are climbing well above normal, with parts of southern and eastern Oregon already seeing triple-digit readings that could last until Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, Medford could be the hottest spot, with highs of 106°F Friday and 105°F Saturday before gradually dipping to the upper 90s by midweek. Pendleton is holding under an extreme heat watch through Tuesday with expected highs near 98°F each afternoon. Eugene, also under an extreme heat warning, will hover near 98°F Friday and stay in the mid- to upper-90s through Monday.

Officials warn that prolonged exposure to this level of heat could quickly become dangerous, especially for those without reliable air conditioning. Cooling shelters have been opened across Jackson, Lane, and Umatilla counties. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours, drink plenty of water, and check on elderly neighbors.

Relief is expected by midweek, but advisories may extend if temperatures stay elevated. Until then, the state remains on alert for heat-related illness and wildfire risk.
