EUGENE, Ore. – Sunshine and climbing temperatures will dominate western Oregon this week, with Eugene and surrounding areas headed toward a stretch of near-record late summer heat. By Friday, highs could reach 94°F, raising concerns about heat-related illnesses and wildfire danger.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, calm winds will allow warm air to build across Lane County starting Tuesday, with afternoon highs in the mid-80s. The heat intensifies Thursday and Friday, pushing temperatures into the 90s across Eugene, Springfield, and along the I-5 corridor north into Salem and Portland. Nighttime lows will stay mild, in the mid-to-upper 50s, offering limited overnight relief.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Local utilities also caution that extended stretches of heat can strain power grids, particularly as air conditioning use spikes.

While skies remain clear and rain-free through early next week, fire danger will increase. State officials encourage avoiding outdoor burning and being cautious with equipment in dry grass.

The warm pattern is expected to hold into early next week, keeping highs near or above 90°F through Sunday.
