Pendleton, Oregon – A burst of summer heat will grip eastern Oregon this weekend as Pendleton heads toward a high of 90°F on Saturday, with wind gusts topping 30 mph in the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, light morning winds will strengthen to 8–13 mph by midday Saturday, with gusts reaching up to 33 mph. Friday will see calmer, sunny weather and a high near 86°F, with mostly clear skies continuing into the night.

The combination of dry, hot air and increased wind Saturday raises concerns for elevated fire danger in open grasslands and forest-adjacent areas across Umatilla County and surrounding high desert zones. Sunday will bring some relief, with highs dropping back to the mid-70s and mostly clear conditions.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose items ahead of Saturday’s winds. Hydration and sun protection are recommended for anyone spending time outdoors.

Temperatures will rebound to the upper 70s and low 80s early next week, with no significant rain in sight. Winds are expected to taper off by Sunday night.
