Portland, Ore. – A late-summer heat surge is set to push temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal across much of Oregon from Sunday through Tuesday, increasing the risk for heat-related illness, especially in inland areas. Overnight lows will also stay warm, running 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal averages Sunday and Monday nights, leaving little relief for residents.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, these temperatures are unusually high for August, as the region has typically passed its peak heat for the year. The agency warns of widespread moderate to major heat risk during this period, particularly for those without adequate cooling or hydration.

Cities including Portland, Salem, and Eugene can expect daytime highs near or above the century mark, with low humidity and full sun compounding the heat. Public health officials advise limiting strenuous outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

The heat risk will begin to ease by Wednesday as temperatures trend closer to seasonal norms. Additional heat advisories may be issued if temperatures remain elevated.
