Portland, Oregon – Dangerous heat is set to blanket western Oregon and southwest Washington starting Sunday afternoon, with highs between 90 and 105°F expected across the region and little overnight relief.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, an Extreme Heat Watch is in effect from Sunday through Monday evening for the Greater Portland-Vancouver metro area, the Willamette Valley, Hood River Valley, and the Columbia River Gorge. Overnight lows could linger in the 60s to low 70s, reducing the body’s ability to recover from daytime heat.
Cities likely to be hit hardest include Portland, Vancouver, Eugene, Salem, Gresham, Corvallis, and Hood River. In Eugene, temperatures will surge to 97°F Sunday and 101°F Monday, with clear skies and little wind to offset the intense sun.
Officials warn that heat-related illnesses may rise sharply, especially for those without air conditioning, the elderly, and people working outdoors. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outside during peak heat, and check in on vulnerable neighbors.
Cooling centers may open across urban counties if temperatures stay elevated. Updates and additional advisories are possible depending on heat index values and humidity trends.
