Medford, Oregon – A heatwave is gripping southern Oregon this weekend, with temperatures soaring and putting those without cooling systems or adequate hydration at risk. From Sunday to Monday, the National Weather Service is warning of a moderate risk for heat-related illnesses, especially in areas away from the immediate coast.

According to the NWS, inland cities like Medford, Grants Pass, and Roseburg will experience temperatures as high as 102°F, with the heat expected to affect those sensitive to hot weather. The heat is also posing a risk for those without proper cooling measures or hydration. Conditions will begin to cool starting Tuesday, but for now, residents should take precautions to avoid heat-related issues.

In Medford, temperatures will peak in the low 100s through Monday, with the heat index potentially making it feel even hotter. The NWS advises locals to hydrate frequently, wear lightweight clothing, and limit outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Those with outdoor jobs or activities should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces.

The NWS anticipates temperatures will begin trending toward normal on Tuesday, bringing relief from the current heatwave.
