Portland, Oregon – Record-setting heat is expected to blanket northwest Oregon and southwest Washington beginning noon Tuesday, with temperatures soaring between 92 and 100 degrees through late Wednesday. Salem and McMinnville could hit the 100-degree mark, making this one of the region’s hottest spells so far this summer.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Heat Advisory covers the Greater Portland/Vancouver Metro, the Willamette Valley, and Columbia River Gorge from noon Tuesday through 10 p.m. Wednesday. The hottest temperatures and highest risk for heat-related illness will be Wednesday afternoon, especially in Salem, McMinnville, and the surrounding Willamette Valley.

Residents in Portland, Vancouver, Hood River, and Eugene are urged to limit outdoor activities during peak heat, seek air-conditioned spaces, and check on elderly neighbors or those without cooling. Health officials warn of rapidly increasing risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke—especially for outdoor workers and children.

To stay safe, keep hydrated, wear light clothing, and use fans or AC if available. For those without air conditioning, keep windows closed during the day and open at night, unless wildfire smoke affects air quality. Never leave children or pets in vehicles, as interiors can become deadly within minutes.

This heat advisory may be extended if temperatures persist. Stay updated with local weather alerts and prepare for possible additional advisories through the week.
