Pendleton, OR – Triple-digit heat is gripping eastern Oregon and southeast Washington, sending temperatures soaring to 101°F in Pendleton and threatening heat-related illnesses across the Columbia Basin until 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a heat advisory remains in effect for the Eastern Columbia River Gorge, Tri-Cities, Yakima Valley, Boardman, The Dalles, and lower Blue Mountains. Highs from 100°F to 105°F are expected Sunday and Monday, with health agencies urging everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Major impacts are expected in Pendleton, Hermiston, and Walla Walla, where outdoor workers, seniors, and children face increased risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Emergency managers stress the importance of never leaving pets or children in vehicles and advise wearing lightweight clothing, taking frequent breaks, and finding shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Heat will peak on Sunday afternoon, with temperatures staying dangerously high through Monday. Residents should prepare for potential power strain, possible outdoor event delays, and disruptions to outdoor work schedules.
