Odell, Oregon – Gardeners in the Upper Hood River Valley should brace for a chilly night as temperatures dip to near 35 degrees, prompting a Frost Advisory from midnight to 8 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, sensitive outdoor vegetation in Odell and Parkdale may suffer damage or die if not properly protected. The advisory, issued in coordination with the Seattle office, highlights the risk of patchy frost in this high-elevation region of northern Oregon.

Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover garden beds with lightweight fabric such as sheets or thin blankets. Even a small drop below 36°F can cause harm to unprotected tomatoes, flowers, and other cold-sensitive crops.

Though late-season frosts aren’t uncommon for the Hood River Valley, this event could catch some off guard after recent mild evenings.

Conditions are expected to warm by late morning Wednesday, but frost may return Thursday depending on overnight cloud cover. Updates will be posted at weather.gov/portland.
