Pendleton, Ore. – A Freeze Watch is in effect for much of central and eastern Oregon late Sunday night through Monday morning, with temperatures expected to dip into the upper 20s across multiple valleys.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, areas including Redmond, Bend, Prineville, Madras, La Grande, Union, Cove, Elgin, Enterprise, Wallowa, and Joseph could see lows as cold as 29 degrees. The agency warns that the conditions carry a significant risk of crop loss, frost damage to sensitive plants, and potential harm to unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents in the Wallowa Valley, Grande Ronde Valley, and central Oregon communities are urged to take precautions ahead of the cold snap. Agricultural operations should cover or move vulnerable plants indoors, while homeowners are advised to insulate exposed pipes and disconnect garden hoses.
The coldest conditions are expected between midnight and 8 a.m. Monday before temperatures begin to slowly rebound during the day. With growing season nearing its end, this could mark the first widespread freeze of the fall for parts of Oregon.
The Freeze Watch remains in effect through Monday morning, with additional advisories possible if cold air lingers into early next week.
